Roof moss removal
Moss comes off by hand first: scraped and brushed from every course of tiles, from the ridge down, and bagged rather than swept into your borders. Soft washing, never jet washing
High pressure strips the surface off concrete tiles and drives water under the laps. We clean by hand and with low-pressure soft washing, which takes longer and does not take years off the roof.

How a roof clean is done
- Inspect first. Tiles, ridge and flashings checked before cleaning, so any defects are found and photographed.
- Moss off by hand. Moss scraped and brushed from the ridge down, course by course.
- Soft wash. A low-pressure wash to remove what the scraper leaves, without stripping the tile surface.
- Gutters and downpipes. Everything that came off the roof is cleared from the gutters, and the downpipes are flushed.
- Bag and remove. All waste bagged and taken away, and the paths swept.

Common questions
Does moss actually damage a roof?
It holds water against the tile and blocks the gutters, and in a hard frost that water expands and breaks the surface. On an older concrete tile roof it shortens its life.
Will it come back?
Eventually, north-facing roofs under trees always will. Keeping the gutters clear and having it done every few years keeps it under control.
Do you jet wash roofs?
No. Pressure washing a tiled roof does more harm than the moss does.
Is roof cleaning worth it on an old roof?
Only if the tiles have life left in them. If the clean shows tiles that are crumbling, we tell you before you spend money cleaning a roof that needs replacing.
Can you clean a roof in winter?
Yes, on a dry day above freezing. Autumn and spring are the most common times because the moss comes away easily.
