If the covering is sound and the problem is one valley, a run of slipped tiles or failed flashing, a repair is the right answer and it costs a fraction of a re-roof. If the battens are rotten, the felt has perished and tiles are lifting all over, patching it is throwing good money after bad. Our recent re-roof shows what perished underlay looks like once the old tiles come off.
What we check before quoting
The loft from inside for daylight, damp and sagging timbers. The covering from outside for lifted, cracked and slipped units. Flashings, valleys, verges and the ridge. Gutters and fascias, because failed rainwater goods rot the roof edge first.

How a roof replacement works
- Free inspection first. Loft and roof checked, photographs taken, and a straight answer on repair or replace before any price is written.
- Written specification. The quote lists the covering, the membrane, the ridge system, the timber allowance, the scaffold and the waste.
- Scaffold and strip. Scaffold up, the old roof stripped one section at a time and covered at the end of every day.
- Rebuild. Rotten timber replaced, new breathable membrane and treated battens, then the new covering, valleys, verges and dry ridge.
- Finish and photographs. Gutters checked and cleared, scaffold down, drive swept and finished photographs sent to you.
Signs your roof needs replacing, not repairing
- Old underlay perished and tearing at the eaves
- Damp in the loft on more than one slope
- Sagging between the rafters seen from the street
- Tiles delaminating or crumbling at the edges
- Nail fatigue: tiles or slates sliding across the whole roof
- A previous roofer has already patched it several times
What you choose on a replacement
- Like for like: Same tile or slate as the street, which matters most on period houses and terraces.
- An upgrade: Moving from a tired concrete tile to a newer profile, or from tile to slate, where the roof timbers will take the weight.
- Dry ridge and dry verge: Mechanically fixed and ventilated, so there is no mortar to crack and blow off.
- Insulation and ventilation: Added while the roof is open, which costs a fraction of doing it later.

Over the years my Wife and I have had input from a few companies regarding our poor loft/roof ventilation. The money spent was a waste. Also we had received poor advice that we needed a new roof. Recently we started to have signs of mould and instantly wanted to nip it in the bud. So we thought we would try again to get some 'proper' advice. We met Dennis and we were very quickly reassured with a clear sensible and reasonable plan to tackle this. What impressed us the most was the extremly friendly approach, the open communication and the honesty. Also fitting us in when it was obvious they were very busy. The price of the job was amazing and there was some slight extra work which was discovered and completed at no extra cost. Brilliant. Thank you so much.

Great service from Dennis and his team. The guys turned up on time, got on with the job quickly and communicated with me clearly when they found the issue. They sorted it within a few hours, tidied up and left the back yard looking like nothing had happened. Would highly recommend but hopefully wont need their help again for a long time!

Common questions
How do I know if I need a new roof?
Daylight through the boards in the loft, damp patches after rain, sagging between the rafters, tiles on the lawn after wind, and mortar dropping out of the ridge are the usual signs. One of them on its own is often a repair. Three of them together usually is not.
Can you replace a roof in winter?
Yes. We strip in sections and sheet up each night, so the house is never left open. Heavy wind is what stops us, not cold.
Do you take the old roof away?
Yes, skip and disposal are in the price and the drive is swept before we leave.
Can you replace just one side of the roof?
Yes, where one slope has failed and the other is sound, which happens on roofs that face the weather. We show you both sides in the photographs.
Will a new roof add value to my house?
A failing roof knocks money off a sale, because buyers' surveyors flag it. A new roof with photographs and a written guarantee removes that problem.
